Kettlebell Training..Are You Doing It?

kettlebell trainingI recently received a 15lb kettlebell along with a Kettlebell Strength and Conditioning DVD by Sara Lurie and was asked to review the Dynamic Kettlebell Workout Program.

So what exactly is The Kettlebell Workout? The Kettlebell Workout is old school Russian Military technique that uses a solid cast iron weight–similar to a cannonball with a handle. We all know that regular strength training, flexibility and cardiovascular exercise is important to maintain for a healthy lifestyle—but what if you just don’t have the time to get on the treadmill, hit the weight room and go to Yoga? Put some muscle into your routine with the dynamic Kettlebell Workout, for all ages and athletic levels. The Kettlebell routine incorporates the benefits of strength training, muscle conditioning and aerobic exercise, all in one workout!

Who is Sara Lurie? Sara Lurie founded Iron Core in 2004 and is the nation’s premier kettlebell expert and star of the #1 Amazon Best Selling DVD, “Kettlebells the Iron Core Way.”! You can  download kettlebell routines from her site ==> HERE!

The DVD with Sara Lurie was very good at guiding me through each exercise and showing me the correct form, even though some of them I will still need to practive until I get right. I was so excited to work out with the KB, as I have been interested in these for a long time. So, Sunday morning, I grabbed the DVD, popped it into my laptop and did the following basic exercises:

1. Turkish GetUps

*These were tough on my knees, and took a lot of practice. I also used the 9lb. KB I already had..didn’t think I could do it with the 15lb one.

2. 2 Arm Swings

*I actually love these! I just wanted to keep doing them and doing them! Especially when I could feel them in directly in my glutes when I did the SQUEEZE!!

3. 1 Arm Swings

*These were great too, just felt a little differently than the 2 arm swings.

4. Alternating Swings

*Struggled a bit with these, in the switching. Never lost hold of the KB, but was afraid I just might!

5. Clean

*This one will need some practice. Kept hitting my wrist with the KB when I brought it up! Hurt a bit, thought it might leave a bruise!

6. Press

*Now this one I could do and I liked it.

7. Front Squat

*I really liked this one also. Anything that works my backend I am sure to LOVE!

I still have yet to tackle the workout they sent me, but first I wanted to get the basics down. So the workout will be coming up another time!

If you are ready to burn fat quickly, increase flexibility and mobility and get toned and lean, then you have to try out Kettlebells!

  1. I once saw Sara in real life, and she is ripped. Small, but powerful looking. I haven’t tried kettlebells yet…but I’m intrigued. One of my good friends loves it, although she says it’s very different than traditional weight-lifting, so it takes some getting used to.

I’m interested to read about other people’s experiences with them!

  2. Those KB’s look awesome. Been wanting to try them out for months. As yet, my gym doesn’t have them!

  3. I keep putting the Iron Core DVDs in my cart at Amazon, but then I stall on actually buying them. I’m anxious to hear what you think about the workout itself, like if it’s really helpful to be following along with the DVD or if it’s basic enough you could do the moves on your own elsewhere. I guess I’m hesitant to swing a kettlebell at the television. LOL

  4. @ Jenn - I want to be small, but powderful looking..guess I should keep up with the KB workouts then huh? Yes, I will definitely need some practice, sigh…

@Rachel - Our gym doesn’t have them either, thats why I was so excited to have them at home. Rather look like a fool trying them out at home than at a gym and breaking one of their mirrors! LOL

@ Skwigg - Yea, was a little scary the first time, especially with the alternating swing. Was afraid all my mirrors would be cracked! I will keep you updated on the workouts!
