Motivation is definitely a huge factor when trying to lose weight, but I think staying motivated is harder. I think initially people get a drive inside them to achieve their weight-loss goals and if they are not losing quickly or if they don't see the scale move daily then it can be very disheartening. My advice to anyone on a weight-loss mission weigh yourself in the beginning and then get rid of that damn thing. Losing weight can be very challenging for someone who is constantly surrounded by others eating unhealthy foods. Mentally this will take a toll on a persons efforts and possibly sabotage their desire to continue. Make yourself loud and clear when you embark on this path that you are making a lifestyle change and that you are going to do whatever it takes to eliminate bad behavior as far as nutrition goes.

I would have to agree that the mental roadblocks are quite hard to overcome. However, trying to turn those around into stepping stones is 1 way to get around it.

Feel angry? Go for a good workout session in the gym!!

However, easier said than done - what is more important is to feel positive about losing weight and getting the right support you need to achieve your goal. :-)

The mental roadblocks are a huge one! If you can't visualize yourself at your goal, then it's really hard to hit, I've found. The good thing is though that as you start exercising, usually you gain self confidence and you start seeing how you can change. :)
