Protein in Water?

protein water

A client of mine brought me a bottle of the Special K20 Protein Water. Their newest flavor is Mixed Berry. I have seen the commercials for this and had wondered just how much protein there could be in water. There are 50 calories and 14 grams of carbohydrates, 6g being sugars. They use whey protein isolate (which is the purest and most absorbable form of whey protein in existence, containing 90% pure protein. It is lactose, fat, and cholesterol free) to make a total of 5 grams of protein in the water.

My take on the water? It was a bit too sweet for me. I had to take half the bottle and pour it into a glass and add water and ice to lessen the sweetness. It had a little bit of an aftertaste that stayed in my mouth also.

So would I choose to buy it? Well, if I was on the road and wanted something sweet, I might choose this over a soda, just for the added protein, but other wise, I think I will just stick with my water and my protein shakes!

Have you tried the Special K20 Protein Water? If so, what did you think? Did you like the taste?

I’ve never tried it but I don’t like the idea of it. Used to really enjoy the Special K cereal and cereal bars “back in the day” when I didn’t pay attention to nutrition labels and ingredients lists, but now that I do I really steer clear of all Special K products. That being said, it WOULD probably be the better choice to soda like you said. But when I want to indulge in not-so-healthy food I want to indulge in food rather than drinks, so I’ll stick with good old fashioned regular water, myself:)
